Jobsite Measurement
Good jewelry store design begins with accurate measurements. You must be very meticulous about the measurements to ensure your display cases, counters, and fixtures fit perfectly within the space. If you don’t have assistance, we can help you measure the floor plan for your jewelry store, though you will need to cover the associated cost. Ideally, it’s best to have someone assist you with this step.
Simple Instructions for Measuring Your Jewelry Store
Before measuring, ensure that:
All walls, floors, and ceilings are finished (including tiling, plastering, and molding).
The locations of electrical outlets, security system wiring, and any plumbing (if applicable) are confirmed.
Step 1: Measure and Draw an Outline of the Store
Sketch a rough diagram of your store’s layout, marking the positions of doors, windows, and any permanent fixtures. Label the overall length of each wall.
Step 2: Label and Measure Doors and Windows
Measure the distance from the edge of each door to the nearest wall and ceiling.
Measure the distance from each window to the nearest walls, floor, and ceiling.
Step 3: Identify and Measure Immovable Fixtures & Obstructions
Draw boxes in your diagram to indicate the approximate locations of any fixed elements
Such as:
Security vaults / Built-in safes / Columns / Electrical panels / HVAC vents / Label each item clearly (e.g., “vault,” “column,” “vent”).
Measure each obstruction:
Width, height, and depth (omit height if it reaches the ceiling).
If the obstruction is elevated (e.g., a wall-mounted security camera), measure from the floor to its base.
Measure distances from the nearest walls:
From the closest wall to the nearest edge of the obstruction.
From the second-closest wall to the obstruction.
Record these measurements on your drawing.
Step 4: Measure Ceiling Height
In older buildings, ceiling heights may vary. Measure the height in all corners and the center of the store. Note each measurement on the diagram and circle it to indicate it’s a ceiling measurement.
Step 5: Verify Your Measurements
If your store is rectangular, add up the lengths of opposite walls to ensure they match (or are very close). For example:
Add the measurements of the left and right walls—their totals should align.
Repeat for the front and back walls.
Adjust if discrepancies are found.
